Bali X Project

The Balinese music ensemble Giri Kedaton presents for the first time the Projet Bali X. More than 25 musicians will be on stage performing an exquisite and energetic symbiosis of music from all horizons

The Projet Bali X, is a seductive and ambitious mix of a wide variety of musical styles with collaborators from all environments, a unique event combining the exuberant and frenetic Asian tones of the Balinese gamelan with techno and electronic music, hard rock, BatCuban drums, Shakuhachi Japanese flutes, surf rock from the 60s and the music of Radiohead! Inspired by the astonishing musical similarities binding these sounds to the Balinese gamelan, Gabriel Evangelista and ic Vandal, Giri Kedaton's new artistic directors, and their acolytes Bruno Desches (from the Japanese ensembleMatsu Take), Jean-Sastien Nicol (drummer of Loco Locass), Alexandre Fecteau (Arseniq 33) present, after a huge work effort, a breathtaking performance where the exotic but also vigorous sonorities of the South-east Asian percussions are fused to the most daring occidental music.

Giri Kedaton Since 1996, Giri Kedaton has been known by Quebecers for the quality and diversity of its traditional Balinese concerts. The ensemble has been recognised for its interpretations of sumptuous court and temple music often accompanied by dance. But the group is mainly known for its interpretations of the explosive modern music called Gong Kebyar. Conscious of the incredible potential of Balinese percussion and wanting to push back cultural and musical boundaries, the duo Vandal-Evangelista have concocted a feast for the senses with their Bali X Project.Giri Kedaton is one of the most active and largest ensembles of its kind in Canada.
