Ni Komang Swijani
Balinese Dancer

Ni Komang Swijani was born in 1970, in the small village of Mas in Bali, into a family of seven.

Encouraged by her father, in 1977 she began her dance studies with I Nyoman Rumantir. She gave her first performance two years later at the age of nine.

Komang also studied at the dance school S.M.P in Denpasar. She has professionally cooperated with known choreographers such as Ni Gusti Ayu Rakala from Peliatan and Ni Wayan Padmi. Komang performs more than twenty traditional Balinese dances as well as contemporary dances (Oleg Tamulilingan, Margapati, Puspa Wresti, Teruna Jaya, Tari Trompong, Legong Lasem, etc.)

Since her arrival in Montreal in 1992, Komang Swijani splits her time between family, dance with the gamelan workshop at Universitde Montrl, and teaching. Komang teaches her art in private lessons and she has also taught in many schools in Montreal.
